Apsara-kunda I Navala-kunda
This kunda was said to have been created when the Apsaras or celestial dancing girls, performed an abhisheka of Shri Krishna and then took their bath in the purified water of the kunda. When Indra performed his abhisheka of Krishna at Govinda-kunda, it is said that all the denizens of heaven, including the Apsaras, also performed on different occasions their own abhisheka of Lord Krishna at various locations around Govardhana Hill. Formerly, there were one hundred and eight different hundas of the demigods situated around the sacred Hill, but most have now disappeared.
Right next to Apsara-kunda is Navala-kunda which is also called Punchari-kunda. NavalaKishore is one of Krishna’s names and means ‘ever fresh youth’. It is said that once when Radha and Krishna were enjoying their spring-time rasa-lila pastimes on the banks of Apsara-kunda, they became so absorbed in the ecstasy of their love for one-another, they simply melted and in Their liquid forms flowed into these two kundas, with Radha melting into Apsara-kunda and Krishna melting into Navala-kunda. It is sometimes said that Apsara-kunda was named after Radharani, whose dancing in the rasa-lila surpassed that of the Apsaras, the heavenly dancing girls, and for this reason it became known as Apsara-kunda
In the Vishnu-dharmottara it says that at one time or another, Krishna manifested all twenty four principle forms of Vishnu here at Apsara-kunda, just for the pleasure of the cowherd boys. Once he manifested the form of twelve-armed Govindadeva and one of the cowherd boys became Garuda, another time Krishna manifested the form of Rama and the cowherd boys became monkeys and bears. On another occasion, Krishna became Varahadeva and started to dig up the earth with His tusks. These various pastime forms of Lord Vishnu were also manifest by Krishna in different places around Vraja.
Some researchers have said that this kunda was cleaned and rebuilt by Rani Navala Singh
of Bharatapura, and thus the kunda became known as Navala-kunda, but this sacred kunda
existed from the time of Krishna’s pastimes in Vraja, therefore the Rani must have performed Dhama-seva here because the kunda bore her same name.

Shri Vraj Mandal Parikarma
Apsarä-kuëòa and Navala-kuëòa lie near each other. Çrématé Rädhikä is likened to the most beautiful apsarä, a damsel from the heavenly planets. Apsarä-kuëòa received its name after Her, and the eternally youthful (navala) Nanda-nandana Çré Kåñëa is present here as Navala-kuëòa. Nearby is a place of räsa. Previously this was a delightful and enchanting grove of thousands of kadamba and tamäla trees. Today hardly any of these trees remain. The Divine Couple Çré Rädhä-Kåñëa melted in prema while performing the räsa dance here. Apsarä-kuëòa and Navala-kuëòa are Their melted forms. Fortunate sädhakas obtain darçana of these ponds.
Madhurya Dhama
This kunda was created when the seven main apsaras came and bathed
Lord Krsna. It is stated in the Visnu-Dharmottare that twenty four avataras (incarnations of God) eternally enjoy pastimes on the banks of this kupda, namely: Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Vamana, Hari, Buddha, Prithu, Prahlada, Nrsimhadeva, Vyasadeva, Bhrigu, Dhanvantari, Parasurama, Rama, Kapila, Dattatreya, Dhruva, Narada, Hamsa,
Hsabhadeva, Hayagriva, Balarama, Krishna, Kalki.
These twenty four personalities are enjoying inconceivable pastimes here. Lord Krishna, for the pleasure of His eternal associates, from time to lime manifests one or the other of His expansions. On one occasion to bewilder His girlfriends (gopi’s), He manifested a twelve-arm form and Ills close friend Shridhama took the form of Garuda (Lord Vishnu’s giant r.igle-carrier). On another occasion Krishna took the form of Varaha (the boar-incarnation) and started to dig up the earth. And on yet another occa¬sion while playing with His friends, Krishna took the form and mood of Lord Ramachandra, and His cowherd boyfriends adopted the mood and form of the monkeys and bears, who assisted Lord Ramachandra In constructing a bridge across the ocean. This is not at all surprising, as Lord Krishna is the fountainhead of all incarnations. Also when Shri Caitanya Mahaprabhu displayed His pastimes for all to see in Navadvipa, He would also display the mood of various incarnations in the company of His asso¬ciates.
At this place Krishna is enjoying along with His most intimate friends in ihe mood of His various incarnations. It is stated in the Srirnad Bhagavatam “O, brahmanas, the incarnations of the Lord are innume-rable, like rivulets flowing from inexhaustible sources of water.” (1.3.26)
Although it is very difficult to understand the mysteries of Krishna’s incar-nations, if one comes and takes bath here in Apsara-kupda, he will very easily solve the mystery. It is further stated in the Varaha Purana that one who bathes in the waters of Apsara-kunda will immediately attain the ben¬efit one gets from performing hundreds of rajasuya-sacrifices and aswamedha-sacrifices.
The mantra to be chanted while taking bath in Apsara kupda is:
apsara ahela yodbhuta
krishna irtdra snapanodbhava
kaluana rupine tubhyam
tirtha deva namo stu te
